is our priority.
EchoOwl is designed for young learners. This policy explains clearly and honestly how the app handles data — and the answer is: as little as possible, only to make the app better.
✅ The Short Version
EchoOwl does not ask for your child's name, email, contact details, or any other personal information. There are no accounts and no sign-ins. We do not show ads, and we do not include social features or chat.
To help us improve the app, we collect anonymous usage information — for example, which features are used and whether the app is running smoothly. This information is not used to identify your child and is not sold or shared with advertisers.
👶 Children's Privacy (COPPA)
EchoOwl is directed at children under 13. We take this seriously. In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable international laws:
- We do not collect names, contact information, photos, voice recordings, location data, or any other personal details from children.
- No account creation is required or possible.
- We do not show behavioral advertising, and we do not use any advertising identifiers.
- We do not allow third parties to collect data from your child through our app.
The anonymous usage information described below is collected solely to support the internal operations of EchoOwl — specifically to maintain, analyze, and improve the app. This use is permitted under COPPA's support-for-internal-operations exception.
📊 Analytics: What We Collect and Why
We use PostHog, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how EchoOwl is used so we can improve it. PostHog acts as our data processor and does not use the data for its own purposes.
What is collected:
- An anonymous installation identifier that EchoOwl generates on first launch. This identifier is not tied to your child's name, email, Apple ID, Google account, or any other personal information.
- App interaction events — such as which screens are opened, which features are used, and which languages are selected.
- Basic technical information needed to diagnose issues, such as the app version and device type (for example, "iPad" or "Android phone").
What is NOT collected:
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any contact details.
- Precise location, GPS coordinates, or IP-based geolocation.
- Photos, microphone input, contacts, or any other device data.
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, AAID on Android).
- Screen recordings or keystrokes.
Data is transmitted securely (encrypted in transit) and used only to help us understand how to make EchoOwl better.
📦 Information Stored on Your Device
App preferences (language selection, difficulty setting, downloaded content packs) are stored locally on your device using standard iOS and Android system storage. This information stays on your device.
EchoOwl also downloads vocabulary, audio, and image content from our content delivery service on first launch and when updates are available. These downloads do not include any personal information about your child.
🛒 In-App Purchases
EchoOwl offers optional language packs and content expansions as in-app purchases, processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). To manage purchase entitlements across devices, we use RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous purchase identifier from Apple or Google. EchoOwl and RevenueCat do not receive or store your payment information, billing address, or credit card details.

🔊 Permissions We Don't Request
EchoOwl does not request access to the microphone, camera, contacts, photos, location, or any other sensitive device permissions. All audio in the app is pre-recorded.
🔗 Third-Party Services
EchoOwl uses two third-party services, both acting as our data processors under contract:
- PostHog — anonymous usage analytics, as described above.
- RevenueCat — in-app purchase management, as described above.
Neither service receives personal information about your child. We do not integrate any advertising SDKs, behavioral trackers, or social media SDKs.
🛡️ Your Choices and Rights
Because we do not collect personal information, there is no account or profile to manage. If you would like us to delete the anonymous usage data associated with your device, please email us at the address below and we will do so.
You can also stop all analytics collection at any time by uninstalling the app.
If you are located in the European Union, United Kingdom, California, or another region with specific data rights, please contact us to exercise any rights available under your local law.
🗑️ Data Deletion Requests
Because EchoOwl does not collect personal information from your child, there is generally nothing to delete. If you have made an in-app purchase and wish to request deletion of the associated purchase record, please contact us at the email below. You may need to provide your purchase receipt or transaction ID.
🔄 Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. We will not reduce privacy protections without notice. For significant changes, we will note them clearly here.
